I have had my recitals in my home church here ever since i started teaching. I find it a great venue, and I don;t have to rent... it's free!! I just have to clean up after. \:\)

The piano there is awesome. It is an upright Yamaha, and sounds awesome. \:\) The church is more circular, so everyone can get a good view of the piano. I just put the piano in the middle of the stage, and also put a microphone at the back, and have someone in the sound room, so they can put it through the speakers too, just for added volume. \:\) It works out wonderfully. \:\)

There has only been one or two students that, because of their religion, they will not go to another church for anything... so other than that it is awesome.

I have had my first four recitals at home, because I only had between 5-10 students. This year I had 17 in the recital, so I reserved the parish hall at church. It has a beautiful Baldwin grand piano. I paid $100 for the room and for rental of a tablecloth. I charged a $10 per student recital fee to offset the cost of the hall and for refreshments.

This year I'm going to a semester fee for lessons and am including that fee in tuition.

How many people on here charge for recitals??? I have never done that, and my old piano teachers never did, but it seems like some people on here do. Just curious to see who does, and does not and how the students react to the charge.

I also charge a recital fee to offset the cost of the hall and the reception, as I provide cake, punch, and coffee.

I charge a recital fee for each recital. This money helps pay for trophies, certificates, cake, programs and punch. I usually do not come out making anything off of it. The fee just covers the supplies listed above and a little something for my time. I have never had anyone say anything about the fee. If anyone ever did have a problem with the fee I would just explain they do not have to participate in the recital.

I have a yearly studio registration fee. A percentage of that goes towards my spring recital costs.

Cool. Right now i do not charge for recitals, as I do not have to pay rent on a building, or provide the food. Each family of the playing students brings a plate of finger foods. We have sooo much awesome food usually... it works out well.. and very tasty too. \:\) The only thing i worry about it setting up and doing the programs, and drinks. \:\)

I've been away for a while because my computer died, and I've been using my mother's computer but haven't been able to recall my password. So, I re-registered today to share the news.

On the first page of this topic I mentioned my plans for the piano recital. I had eighteen students perform, most of whom were EXCELLENT. Oh, and I sang Billy Joel's 'She's Got A Way' and proposed to my girlfriend.

She said yes. \:D

I went on first; the boss suggested it so there would be an audience for me; most people left before the end. There were students of three different teachers involved.

Instead of putting people on according to their skill level, it was pretty random. But the girl that finished it off, one of my students, played Rock Around the Clock and just nailed it, the best performance I could have asked from her.

Anyway, she said YES. So I'm kinda happy now. \:\) I'm moving down on Friday, and we'll be married next June.
