I thought I posted this a while back but cannot find it. I have a teenage girl who will soon be finished the green Alfred Book 2/3. I of COURSE want to move her into Faber for her next book.

I will definitely go to the music store to look at what comes next, but sometimes they don't have all of Alfred so I can look at it and compare.

Any ideas on what level to put her in to? She is just now finishing Am and Dm scales. We have done lots of supplemental so she's been in this book for quite a while.

Maybe Faber 3B? Or 3A, if she needs some review. Sometimes when you change methods with a student, it takes a bit of adjusting, and, for my students, I prefer to go back a little earlier in a new method than absolutely necessary, just to be sure all the bases are covered. Adjusting from the sound of the music in Alfred to the pieces in Faber has been a challenge for a few of my students that I have transferred from the former method to the latter. Maybe you could have her work through the 3A performance book and then move on into all the 3B books. Just an idea.

I have a teenage girl who was in a similar situation. She had taken lessons for several years (with a different teacher), and then quit for several years.

We used the Alfred 2/3 to review and get back into the swing of lessons. Then I transferred her into Faber 4, along with Masterworks Classics 3.

She's very bright and has done well in Faber 4, but she had been playing close to that level before she quit for the first time. I think 3B might be a good choice for your student, level 4 could be too much of a challenge.

Thank you all! I will look into 3B when I go back to the store. I didn't have this info. handy when I went last week, and I sort of promised her I'd give her the books next week! Now she can have them for the summer, and hopefully play through them between summer lessons.
