There is no specific high note to that glissando, so I'd go by the rhythm, stopping after the dotted half note is done. or when the little fingers hurt from doing the glissandi.

Exactly.

I am actually the composer of Starfish at Night! Hello from Nova Scotia :o) I have heard lots of stories about teachers with wonderful creative approaches to the black key glissando. Keep in mind, it is meant to be magical, fun and delightful for a child. I have a small knit finger puppet (cute little frog) and we fit it over the RH thumb. That way, students can still play the whole tone patterns, but the thumb can gently glide up the black keys with a lovely free arm.

I love it! Don't know how in the world you get the cute little frog to stay on the thumb, but I'll try it. All grandmothers have finger puppets.

I never use fingers for black key glissandi - just an open palm lightly brushing over the tops of the keys (NOT past the escapement level). Or a small stuffed animal.

Yea, I can see the kids taking "fluffy" to their audition smile
It would be fun in the lesson though, just kidding you.

LOL grin- If we allowed kids to be kids at these auditions instead of trying to teach them how to be stiff classical performers who are trying to act like adults (like many appear) it would be a travesty! whistle

(kidding you back!)
