When one has a chord that exceeds an octave (and one's hand!) as in the third measure left hand (A-C), is the correct procedure to always play the notes as quickly as possible from the lowest to the highest and count on the pedal to hide as much as possible?

Which version of the Canon are you playing?

I don't even think you need to do it as fast as possible. Generally speaking, I play the lower note as a grace note and put the high note on the beat, but it might depend on which version.

Sorry it took so long to reply but I guess I haven't told the forum software to notify me when there's a post. Where is it that I tell the software to let me know?

I downloaded the sheets from the internet a few weeks ago. The only definable info is J. Pachelbel/H.M. (transcription) at the upper right and the name is 'Kanon' transcribed for piano solo.

Some further info--this is the first time that I've downloaded 'free' sheet music. I did so not knowing if I want to learn the tune. I figure I'll see how the first page goes and if I like it and find that I can play it okay, I'll then purchase.

More on the 'edition.' I've seen what is termed as an 'easy' version online and I can tell you straight out this music looks very much like the real thing.

Also, as for my ~level of play--I'm brushing up Debussy's Reverie and 1/4 through re-learning Clair de lune.
