So I know this is a little early and everyone is thinking about Christmas music, but I'm looking for some books with Easter/spring themed music in them for a recital next spring. I would like to use books instead of sheet music since I have several students in the same levels. The levels I need would be equivilent to MFPA (all levels) through PA 3. Any ideas on some good books?

Are they sharing the books? I would think it would be cheaper to buy sheet music than for each student to buy his own book.
Sorry - I know that didn't answer your question. Spring is when I usually focus on Classical pieces, since fall is usually geared to holiday music. Easter or Spring-themed music sounds like fun, though.

Our MTA is doing a program titled "The Beauty of the Earth" and it has music all about nature. Seems perfect for spring!

Arlene - I love what your association is doing! We may swipe the idea! That's so neat!!!

The Melody Bober "Hats Off To You" is a great duet book that is thematic. All the Melody Bober elementary music books are great in my opinion. She's def the best laugh Also, Vandall has some fun music books. As far as thematic... you're on your own. No suggestions from me. Sorry. I just am not creative that way! frown

Our association has what we call our "Community Outreach" concert each year. We put together a themed recital that includes not only piano but other genres as well. Our special guest for this concert is the Fresno Pacific University Chamber Singers. There will be piano solos, duos, duets and other instrumental ensembles.

Some themes we have done in the past are:

Music of the Dance
French Music
All-American Composers
A Trip Around the World

It's a great way to reach out to the community, share the gift of music and let them know who we are.

I also make my spring recital the classical recital, but it is fun to have a "spring" themed piece or two! For my last one, one student played an arrangement of Vivaldi's "Spring" from the Four Seasons, another played "Spring Waltz," by Fritz Spindler (from the Festival Collection level one), and I had a voice student sing a song called "Spring Flowers."

I suppose there's also the Rite of Spring...

Thanks everyone! These suggestions are great. It may be a long winter since I'm already thinking of Spring songs!

I've done a circus animal theme before..
Or a "dress the part" recital like if a student was playing "take me out to the ballgame" they'd wear there baseball uniform.
