I just received my first issues of Clavier which I learned about from this forum-thanks! I also subscribe to three other good piano magazines that I haven't seen mentioned here, so I'd like to let you know of them. They are not specifically teaching-oriented, although Fabers advertise in at least one of them, and the workshop articles could be used in teaching situations. They ARE wonderfully pianist-oriented! If there are even more that I should try, please let me know- thanks again. Sheet Music Magazine: $18.97,6 issues per year: Lots of printed popular music- contemporary hits, old standards, articles, workshop..1-800-759-3036 Piano Today: $18.97, 4 issues per year: Lots of printed music -Classical/ jazz/ international/ beginner and professional- articles, musicianship....(Same publisher as Sheet Music Magazine)1-800-759-3036 Piano & Keyboard: $26.95 6 issues per year: New music, reviews, articles, events, discussion, some printed music- this month is an interesting ("classical contemporary") Peruvian work.....1-415-458-8672

Hello! I'm not sure if anyone mentioned Keyboard Companion? It comes out 4 times a year...I don't know how much it is. The cover says it is "A Practical Magazine on Early Level Piano Study". I find it helpful as it introduces different viewpoints to common teaching questions. They have a website - keyboardcompanion.com. Hope this helps! Tara

Hi Lyn,
I'm just curious to know...Don't you get overwhelmed by the sight of "lots of printed music?" what do you do with them? Do you use them for sight reading or for the actual learning, playing, and mastering? I'm practicing my daily pieces which are about 5, and had 8 more on the side for when I had more practice time. A few days ago, I practiced the main pieces with 15 min. scales and chords (for about an hour and a half of total practicing) in the morning. And at night, I practiced the other 8 pieces, sectioned of course. By bedtime, I was exhausted mentally and emotionally, thinking to myself that I will never be able to master the other 8 since I practice them occasionally when time permits. So, I went back to my music room, and took 6 of them off my file and into my storage box, and kept only two: an easy duet and the "Phantom of the Opera." You can imagine my stress level going up just by reading about those magazines, lol. I wondered how many pieces a person can take unless maybe it's not so overwhelming for the advanced player who can play on the spot?

Renelle- my sentiments, exactly. Mona- I do love to try new music, and I do sight-read pretty well (memorizing is another matter....). There will NEVER be enough time to devote to my repertory work, so I frequently reach exhaustion by bedtime, too! When a new piano magazine arrives, I read through everything, then make a copy of my favorites to put into a binder that I keep in my car trunk, to have available when I visit family or friends who have pianos. The binder is labeled "The Lyn Tour"....

Kinko's can do the cutting AND binding. I have them laminate the front and back cover pages, too. I've also had this done to some of my old, fragile sheet music and books. Mona, you're right- this forum is a great resource! If you have a good public library, you may find music books that would be fun sight-reading material.

Has anyone tried downloading sheet music from the internet? I've noticed this option at different sites, but have been chicken to try it. Any recommendations?

Renelle, sorry I don't remember the prices, but it must have been reasonable. I usually combine the music printing with other business projects. There is a Kinko's in Lubbock (Kingsgate- is that a shopping center?) on 82nd St. The phone # is 806-791-1224. They can probably quote over the phone. However, convenience is worth a few dollars. For you, that could mean distance. For me, it's availability. I don't have a QUICK printer nearby, and Kinko's is open 24 hours.

In addition to the New Release Club materials, I am also looking for the Keyboard Companion magazine. I sent in the subscription money at least 2-3 mo. ago and my understanding was it would restart in Oct. Do any of you take this magazine?

Carole,
I also have a subscription to this magazine and have sent in money for the new year, but I have not received anything either. I hope it will be soon!
